Municipality Barlovento is located in the northern part of La Palma Island (Canary Islands, Spain). It is included in province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Barlovento is on the main highway which encircles the island and is located north of La Palma Airport.
The neighbour municipalities are San Andrés y Sauces (on which it was dependent until 1678), and Garafía (to the south). The municiaplity location favours the abundance of clouds, the humidity of which feed the laurisilva woodland and also enrich the aquifer.
In the central parts and near the coastline most of lands are farms and the southwestern parts are mostly forests and hills. The Atlantic Ocean can be seen directly to the northeast offering glimses of Tenerife and La Gomera.
The municipality Barlovento is no so attractive for tourism as other municipalities on the island. There is a large recreation zone and campsite at the Laguna de Barlovento - an artificial reservoir, which is the largest area of freshwater on the island.
