Town of Guadalajara is situated in autonomous community Castille La Mancha, north east of the capital city Madrid, in province with same name Guadalajara. The region has lengthy history. Its name (meaning "Stony River") comes from times when the city was under Arab rule. Dating back to the Roman rule, this city was called Arriaca.
Guadalajara was destroyed in 1808 during the Spanish War of Independence by the French Army and didn’t recovered until 1840 when the Academy of Military Engineering came to oversee the reconstruction of the city.
Today the town is one of the most important cities in Spain for urban development. Nearly 40% of the population of the province live in Guadalajara.
