Municipality Ayamonte is located in autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It is part of Huelva province. The main town Ayamonte is located 52 km from the provincial capital city of Huelva and is one of the most populated areas of the province.
The town of Ayamonte is built in the style of the majority of the small Spanish towns and villages from the region - an old medieval quarter in the central district, with many very narrow streets and historical buildings around it. The Guadiana River passes north of the town and is a border between Ayamonte and Vila Real de Santo António (Portugal). There is a ferry line and a modern bridge that connects both countries.
The town attracts visitors with its excellent beaches, magnificent scenery at the mouth of the Guadiana river, the incredible artistic heritage, high level sports facilities and with the facts it is a border with Portugal.
The beach area of Ayamonte is Isla Canela, and is reached by a causeway across the Marismas del Guadiana (salt marshes that are an important wildlife reserve, providing a home to many waterfowl, including herons and flamingos).
