Vigo is located in autonomous community of
Galicia,
Spain. It is included in the
province of Pontevedra and despite the fact it is not a province capital, city of
Vigo is the largest in
Galicia region. Including population from extended metropolitan,
Vigo is the 14th-largest metropolitan area of
Spain.
In the metroplotan area are included folowing villages: Babío,Saa, Penís, Fonte Escura,Pereiró,Ponte,Freixeiro, Mantelas, Salgueira, Bagunda, Bouciña, Barreiro, Ceboleira, Pardavila, Garrida. The urban area of
Vigo is built over both a hill-fort, Castro) and a Roman settlement.
Vigo is one of the leading industrial areas in
Galicia and has the largest fishing port in Europe.
